Mission & Goals
- The Main goal is to train young men and women in the area of the fire service and to assist them in pursuing goals to become a career firefighter. The Post is organized similar to the Fire Department. The Explorers participate in meetings, drills, public relations events and other related activities. Explorers who successfully pass a series of related tests and training may be eligible to participate in the Ride along Program and further their experience under the direction of a Company Officer. This program is committed to supporting the goals of the City of San Jose and San Jose Fire Department regarding diversity. Fire Explorer Post #888 will actively pursue diversity in its recruitment efforts. Gain practical experience in a career, special interest or skill.
- Engage in a program of activities centered on Five Emphasis Areas: Career Opportunities, Leadership, Service Learning, Life Skills and Character Education.
- Experience positive leadership from adult and youth leaders and be given the opportunities to take on leadership roles.
- The Explorer shall have a chance to learn and grow in a supportive, caring and fun environment.
PARTICIPATION CRITERIA FOR POST
- Age 14 to 20 years
- Resident of Santa Clara CountyMaintain a minimum of a “C” grade average and must graduate from high school to remain in post
- Parent/Guardian written approval
- Good Health
- Maintain post level paperwork and training forms
- Uniforms shall be worn at meetings, public functions, Ride Along and special details
